Kettle Moraine Recap

Some members of the club went to hike the Ice Age Trail in the Kettle Moraine Southern Unit, Wis. We had a blast. Hiked northbound four and a half miles from hwy 12 on Friday, April 8. On Saturday we awoke and hiked twenty miles to Shelter #1. It was a long day but well worth the effort. On Sunday we hiked out. Looking forward to the next backpacking trip.

Backpack Kettle Moraine April 8th - 10th

The 2K Adventure Club will be going on a backpacking trip the weekend of April 8-10. We will be hiking the Ice Age National Scenic Trail through the Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit. To come on the trip with us see the one and only official sign-up sheet in 2k Adventure Gear; there are only ten spaces available, with at least three already taken, so sign up now! In dire circumstances, you could call the store and ask them real nicely to be put on the list. We will be leaving from the store at two p.m. on Friday, April 8th and heading to the trail so we can hike 4.4 miles from Hwy. 12 to Shelter #3 where we will be spending the night. If you cannot leave the store with us but feel you will be able to make the campground by nightfall, feel free to sign up. On Saturday we will hike 18 miles to Shelter #1, this will be a beautiful, not to strenuous, but long all day hike. Sunday morning we will be breaking camp and hiking 1.7 miles out.

There will be a planning meeting on Wednesday, Mach 23 at 7 p.m. in the store for all who sign up. Being a club trip, you will be responsible for bringing all of your own gear. At the meeting we will discuss gear needed and gear buddies if needed. If you do not have all the gear then maybe you could share with someone. Also, even though the event is open to ten people, we can only have five tents. Therefore we will need to buddy up in tents. This will be discussed at the meeting as well. Also, ten people can become unruly on a trail so we will split the hiking party up in groups. Finally, food will be treated the same way as gear: you will need your own or to have a food buddy.

Lastly, I am Kevin Phillips and I will be the trip leader. Contact me at captainmatter@gmail.com if you have any questions. Rich Gran will be the assistant leader; he can be reached at 2kadventureclub@gmail.com. Here is a link to a trail map. Here is a link to trail mileage.

2K Snowshoe Sunday, 2/13/3011

We had a great turn out today at 2K's Snowshoe Sunday!  There were two groups that shoed McHenry County's Glacial Park.  The temperature was a mild 38 degrees with a stiff wind when not sheltered by the oaks.  The route was about 3.1 miles, or 5k and utilized all of Glacial Parks hills and prairie.

Thanks to all who attended and had a good time, that's what it's all about.  Make comments below or email to 2kadventureclub@gmail.com

Cheers
